Build and sustain the competence of public and private stakeholders to comply with quality and food safety international requirements

The project addresses the following Sanitary and Phytosanitary issues identified

  • Improper pesticide and fertilizer use
  • Poor post harvest practices
  • Lack of awareness and training
  • Lack of a proper pest risk analysis system
  • Poor coordination & communication among different stakeholders

This project assists local farmers to improve quality of their produce, obtain better
prices and increase supply of high quality, safe fruits and vegetables to meet both local and international demand.

Key Outputs:

  • The value chains of selected crops of fruits and vegetables with high income generation and export potential are assessed
  • Enhanced availability of information on updated regulated pest list
  • Enhanced capacity of public and private stakeholders on understanding and complying with SPS standards, pest risk analysis/surveillance and improved entrepreneurial skills
  • Enhanced availability, accessibility and awareness of information on and compliance with SPS standards
  • Improved public-private cooperation and networking between stakeholders
